Painful Medical Condition & Felt Like A Burden

George’s Story

A Mason Helped By Donations Like Yours

"It's a huge relief to live at TMRC. I don't have to worry about anything."
– George with his Triune Lodge life membership certificate

“Living here, they check on me all the time. I don’t have to worry about making doctor appointments, getting to the doctor, or having prescriptions filled. They do all that for me. It’s a huge relief.”

— George

George, age 81, moves slowly some days. On other days, he just doesn’t feel well enough to even visit with his friends at Texas Masonic Retirement Community.

“I have rheumatoid arthritis. Some days the pain just won’t let up,” says George.

Then he adds, “Living here, they check on me all the time. I don’t have to worry about making doctor’s appointments, getting to the doctor, or having prescriptions filled. The staff here does all that for me. It’s a huge relief.”

“I don’t feel like a burden to my family anymore.
It’s not just the help with medical care. Food, activities, rent, clothes, personal needs—I don’t have to worry about any of it.”

George grew up in San Antonio with a loving, kind stepfather who was active in Triune Lodge #15. In December 1978, George joined his stepfather, stepbrother, and uncle as a Lodge member.

He laughs and says, “They told me to get in and get active. I had a lot to learn when I became secretary right after joining.”

As a young man, George served his country in the Air Force Reserves and started a career in bookkeeping. Later he traveled throughout Texas as a meat salesperson. Along the way he married and raised two children, while also actively participating in local Lodge activities.

“When I retired, my son invited me to live with his family in Colorado. They were always gracious and tried to include me, but over time I came to feel like I was asking too much of them.”

George recently celebrated 45 years as an active Mason. His status as a Master Mason and the donations of others to the No Mason Left Behind Project mean that he can live in a private room at TMRC and enjoy all the benefits offered at no charge for the rest of his life.

Today he says, “When I was younger, I didn’t realize how much TMRC had to offer a guy like me. If I have a problem, they are very caring. And, they have all kinds of fun things to do like bingo, music, ice cream socials, and meals with friends. It’s a good place to be.”

The No Mason Left Behind Project helps provide older Texas Masons in need and their qualified loved ones with all-inclusive 24 hours a day/7 days a week accommodations at Texas Masonic Retirement Community--including medical services and nursing care. The cost of these benefits exceeds $2.5 million annually.
