Serious Health Problems & Needed Affordable Living

John’s Story

A Mason Helped By Donations Like Yours

"I've been a member of Oak Cliff Lodge since 1992. Since I'm a Master Mason, I qualify to live at TMRC with no worry about rent or meals or other needs for the rest of my life."

“I was in a wheelchair with back problems until recently. Plus, I deal with a long-term immune deficiency illness, asthma, and glaucoma. Moving to TMRC has been a total blessing to me. I can live here with no worry about rent or meals or other needs for the rest of my life.”

— John

John, age 56, walks with a cane due to serious medical issues with his back. “Not so long ago, I was in a wheelchair,” he said. “With rehab and prayer, this is a real improvement.”

Years ago, John was forced to take disability from his career as a teller at a Dallas bank. “I have an immune deficiency that meant I could no longer work.” John also deals daily with asthma and glaucoma.

Although his medical challenges caused problems with full-time work, John knew his parents needed help. He eventually moved in with them and became their round-the-clock caregiver.

With the deaths of his mother and father, John needed new affordable living arrangements.

“I’ve been a member of Oak Cliff Lodge since 1992, holding many offices over the years,” he says. “Since I’m a Master Mason, I qualify to live here at Texas Masonic Retirement Community with no worry about rent or meals or other needs for the rest of my life.”

“I knew about TMRC because I visited friends who lived here over the years. I took a tour last summer and realized this could be the perfect place for me.”

John also gets help with his ongoing medical needs, “The staff takes me to the doctor. I don’t have to worry about any of those problems.”

“TMRC is a great place,” he says. “Like one big family. We play bingo, go to Walmart. Today there was a watermelon party. Living here is a total blessing to me.”

The No Mason Left Behind Project helps provide older Texas Masons in need and their qualified loved ones with all-inclusive 24 hours a day/7 days a week accommodations at Texas Masonic Retirement Community--including medical services and nursing care. The cost of these benefits exceeds $2.5 million annually.
